The idea of the exhibition ‘Square is just a Shape’ is to present a panoramic overview of Indian art to an audience completely new to contemporary Indian art scenario. The exhibition will trace a legacy of names that have experimented with ‘square’ as a visual trope from the most established and senior names in the Indian art to some young and talented ones. A running thread throughout the show would be ‘the square format’ keeping in mind the visual dynamism this geometrical premise can offer. Endorsing perfections of lengths and angles, such a dimension delimits and limits aesthetic perception at the same time by opening a new horizon of multi-format, innovative experiments that can be bred within a wondrous territory culled through a larger curated vision.
